Our congregation was birthed in 1990 out of a small group of Filipino Christians who were part of First Alliance Church here in Calgary. With a vision for reaching Filipinos in Calgary and Alberta, we launched out as Calgary Filipino Alliance Church in 1996. In 2001, we re-named ourselves River of Life Alliance Church. We did this because our God loves people from all backgrounds and we do too! In a multi-cultural Canada, we aim to reflect our nation by becoming more multi-cultural. So we retain the warmth and service oriented strength of Filipino culture, yet as followers of Jesus we have an increasing love for all nations. Everyone finds a warm welcome at River of Life.
In 2003, we began a building fund with the goal of purchasing our own building. From 1990 to 2016 we rented facilities in a number of buildings around the city. Finally in September 2016 we purchased and moved into our own building on Bannister Road (formerly owned by Southgate Chinese Alliance Church).
From 2008 to 2016, we worshipped together on Saturday evenings due to the fact we were renting a church building that was in full use on Sundays. With the purchase of our own building we immediately added a Sunday morning service to our regular Saturday service. This reflects our desire to serve as many people as possible by offering alternate times for worship. While still a medium sized congregation (weekend worship including children averages less than 300 people), we are committed to helping people find new life in Jesus.
We want everyone to connect with God, with others and with a world of need.
